Zumbiel Packaging Expands

April 1, 2010 Box Biz

Zumbiel Packaging is expanding its Hebron, Ky., facility to support its Consumer Packaging Division’s growth in sales. Zumbiel’s 2006 strategy update that re-organized the company along divisional lines was designed to build sales in key market segments.  This successful strategy led to the need for a highly automated manroland R900 large format UV press and 180,000-sq-ft addition to support its Consumer Packaging Division. The addition will provide room for the new press, current equipment moving in from the existing Norwood, Ohio, facility as well as future investments.

“As business grew and demand increased, the need for a more modern, automated, and reliable press became evident,” says Zumbiel’s CEO Bob Zumbiel. “We saw the potential time and cost savings from updated technology press features available on today’s presses.”

A Zumbiel press selection team ultimately decided upon a Roland 907-6 press (56-in. width) with an aqueous anilox coater.  The press is prepared for UV printing with several interdeck UV modules. It also includes a Telepresence remote diagnostics module, OK balance, ColorPilot, and printnet. The expansion will be completed and the new press operational in the fourth quarter of this year.
