April 1, 2009 By: Packaging online staff Box BizJackson Paper Manufacturing Co. recently invested $1.85 million to upgrade its corrugating medium mill in Sylva, N.C., reports the Citizen Times. Crews spent four days installing a custom-built headbox that performs crucial steps in the production process. The new headbox was custom built over a nine-month period at a factory in Quebec and delivered to Sylva by tractor trailer in early March. An in-house crew of 36 worked with contractors from 14 different firms to remove the old headbox and install the new one. The paper machine was offline 96 hours for the upgrade. The independently owned mill produces a 100 percent recycled product. Mill owners have invested $16 million in machine and facility upgrades since purchasing it in 1995.
