Cal Poly State Takes First in Packaging Competition
August 16, 2008 Official Board MarketsThe winners of the 9th Annual Student Packaging Design Competition have been decided. The Association of Independent Corrugated Converters (AICC) received more than 15 entries from Cal Poly State University, Clemson University, Humber College, and Appalachian State University. The students could submit designs in three different categories. Teams from Cal Poly State took home top honors in all three.
In the Design to Fit a Problem Category, first place went to “The Perfect Palletizer,” designed by the Cal Poly State team of Chelsey Wood, Troy Nelson, Zach Mena, and Ethan Stansbury. In this category, students were asked to design a structure that accomplishes a given task while accounting for converting challenges.
“Poly Pitches” was the winning design for the Open Design Category. The winning team was made up of Cal Poly State students Sean Ipackchi, Brady Haug, Mark Hesser, and Andrea Raggio. In this category, students were required to design any structure in which they design the die line and graphics and print the job.
First place in the Corrugated As Art category was awarded to the “Chess Board” design by Cal Poly State team made up of students J.D. Howard, Eric Meyer, Matthew Oates, and Walter Fong. For this category students designed a one-of-a-kind, non-production run, corrugated structure.
All of the first, second and third place winners in each category receive a plaque and a monetary award. The first place winners in each category also receive an all expense paid trip to the AICC 2008 Annual Meeting this year in Atlanta.
