FiberMark Opens New Design Center
July 19, 2008 Official Board MarketsFiberMark has opened its new Manhattan Design Center showcasing a library of FiberMark’s textured and colored cover materials and the applications they have inspired. The design center will serve as a collaborative location for designers to sample FiberMark materials and share ideas for integration into their projects. FiberMark held opening receptions at the center, located in New York City’s Flat Iron District, in early June. They drew 70 guests from the design, packaging and publishing industries.
Designed by architect and furniture designer Roger Crowley, the center is meant to replicate paper qualities: curved, folded and flat, while the materials of the wood cabinetry and cork floor hint at pulp’s forest origin. Overhead, a spiral of tiny, jewel-like lamps highlights stepped wall shelves that serve as the primary display area for showcase pieces. The centerpiece of the space is a 12 ft sculptural conference table designed by Crowley and fashioned from scrolling stainless steel and ivory white Corian carved in the shape of a traditional binder’s bone.
