G-P Agrees To Pay Environmental Fine
August 16, 2008 Official Board MarketsEnvironmental officials have proposed fining Atlanta-based Georgia-Pacific LLC, $12,000 for failing to perform required inspections at its Brewton, Ala., containerboard mill. The consent order issued by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) says the company failed to perform monthly visual leak detection inspections of the non-condensable gas collection system from December 2007 through May 2008. The company has agreed to pay the fine.
The order and an accompanying notice indicate that mill employees failed to perform monthly inspections of pipe systems that collect gas. Georgia-Pacific has about 450 employees in Brewton.
