Pratt Begins Trial Runs at New Mill
March 18, 2009 By: Packaging online staff Box BizPratt Industries, Conyers, Ga., has successfully started up a paper machine for lightweight recycled linerboard and corrugating medium at its new greenfield mill in Shreveport, La. The new machine, built by Italian paper machine builder Over Meccanica S.p.A., has a daily capacity of 1,108 tons and can produce board in the 16.4 to 32.8 lb range from 100 percent recovered paper.
Over Meccanica says its Fourdrinier duo-ply machine has had “extremely positive” trial runs. The unit is fully automatic. Among its many features are twin hydraulic headboxes and a multicylinder drying section.
The mill is expected to produce 360,000 tons per year using the same recycled fiber technology Pratt employs at its other recycled containerboard mills in Conyers, Ga., and Staten Island, N.Y.
