VARIABLE REPEAT ROTARY DIECUTTER

Kempsmith Machine Co. unveils its new variable repeat rotary diecutter (VRRC). The new web-fed VRRC uses flexible magnetic dies and only one set of magnetic cutting cylinders for all repeat lengths. The problems and expense of changing multiple cutting cylinders and costly dies are illuminated. The VRRC is completely servo-driven, and can be put inline with a printing press or run offline with preprinted stock. Rotary pin stripping allows easy removal of internal or external waste. Flexible dies offer cutting, creasing, or embossing. The Kempsmith variable repeat rotary cutter can allow them both to be done at the same time with one impression.

1. Bolt System

Container Graphics Corp. introduces its ReadyBolt™ system, comprised of washers, fasteners and cylinder inserts that can be used individually or in combination. The system has demonstrated substantial reduction in press changeover times. In addition, the fasteners and cylinder inserts eliminate costly maintenance downtime. The patent-pending ReadyBolt washer features an elastomer that grips and holds the die bolt during press setup. The ReadyBolt fasteners have a pilot tip and special threads that correct for misalignment with the cylinder threads. The ReadyBolt inserts have a pilot bore to self-align the die bolts with the cylinder threads.

2. Planning/Scheduling Module

HRMS Inc. offers a new software module for its Rohde Software Gen/2 core business software, HRMS Advanced Planning & Scheduling (APS). The HRMS Advanced Planning & Scheduling module is a converting scheduling module designed specifically for the paperboard packaging industry, and provides automatic scheduling of jobs based on forward, backward or bottleneck loading. The HRMS APS provides instant real-time visibility of the schedule — including load vs. capacity — across all machines and plants, to add departments. Email-ready line-up reports are created immediately, saving time for the scheduling and production staff.

3. Liquid Adhesive Guns

Nordson Corp. offers two new high-speed, rapid-cycling liquid adhesive dispensing electric guns — designed to increase the efficiency and productivity of production processes and deliver more consistent, quality bonding of materials. With their new elongated, reduced-cavity nozzles, Nordson LA 825 RC electric guns are designed for small adhesive quantities, intermittent application, and high-line speeds found in folding carton production, while Nordson LA 825 electric guns are well suited to the paper and paperboard converting industries. Both applicators maintain consistent bead length in high-speed intermittent production, regardless of line speed.

4. Multi-Sheet Detector

Kluge introduces a new Electronic Multi-Sheet Detector (MSD) to its newest folder gluer, the OmniFold. The MSD is simple to set up and use: A pair of sensors mounted to a crossbar at the in-feed area scans every sheet that passes between them. These sensors are wired to a control module that can be set to shut the machine off when more than one sheet tries to pass through it. By stopping the machine when multiple sheets are detected, waste and damaged stock is reduced — providing larger quantities of usable product while reducing downtime caused by jams. Samples of stock are used to set the sensors precisely for the job that will be run on the machine.

5. Extrusion Adhesives

National Adhesives introduces VelocityP3™ 33-715A and 33-715B extrusion adhesives for moderate and difficult substrates in folding carton and glued lap applications. High-pressure (600 cps) VelocityP3 33-715A and low-pressure (300 cps) VelocityP3 33-715B adhesives offer high-end adhesion properties to a wide range of difficult-to-stick substrates. These clean- running adhesives eliminate the risk of build-up on nozzles and do not "trail" during application. Additional benefits include good water resistance, heat resistance and cold resistance. The adhesives are compatible with most extrusion systems, including those from Bobst, HHS, Valco, Nordson, Pafra, Leary, ITW and others.

6. Fan Pivot

The new pivot from Big Ass Fans is a functional, flexible solution for mezzanines, narrow aisle ways, around ceiling obstructions and in confined workspaces. The compact, 6-ft-diameter pivot has been designed to be seen, and built to last. The pivot has the strength, reliability and safety features to operate worry-free in tough environments, with sleek styling appropriate for showing off. The mounting system features two pivot points that give the fan 73 unique hanging positions. The proprietary airfoil and winglet combo maximizes performance at smaller sizes, while the precision-molded hub ensures smooth operation and long life. It includes an optional easy-to-install cage.
