SSCC Closes Raleigh Box Plant

June 3, 2009 By: Packaging online staff Box Biz

Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. (SSCC) has closed its corrugated packaging plant in Raleigh, N.C., as part of a restructuring that has the firm shuttering facilities throughout the U.S., the Triangle Business Journal reports. SSCC filed for bankruptcy protection in January.

Production in Raleigh stopped on April 23, says company spokesperson Mike Mullin, and the closure resulted in the layoff of 36 employees, the Journal reports.

Mullin says SSCC has moved the work to its other facilities in North Carolina, where it has operations in Shelby, Winston-Salem, and Wilson.
